Japan and China Team Up to Adapt "Bloodivores" Webcomic into Anime

Emon announces cast and staff ahead of October 1 premiere

An official website opened today for Bloodivores, an upcoming co-production between Japan and China that has Emon animation brand Haoliners producing the adaptation of Bai Xiao's popular webcomic. The comic runs on Tencent's online comic portal, and the TV anime is set to run for 12 episodes on Tokyo MX starting October 1.

Chen Ye directs, with Masashi Nakamura (episodes of Rokka -Braves of the Six Flowers-) serving as chief director. The rest of the staff includes color designer Haruko Nobori (Drifters, Wakakozake), art director Yoshimi Umino (.hack series, Gai-Rei-Zero), director of photography Minori Kimura (BONJOUR♪Sweet Love Patisserie), and CG director Toshiro Hanamura (Non Non Biyori, Absolute Duo). Yoshiaki Matsumoto handles set production, with animation production by Emon and Creators in Pack Inc.

Here's a synopsis from the press release:

60 years ago, a strange case of insomnia struck the population, forcing them to stay awake for more than a full week. The victims, completely sleep deprived, all went mad. To cure this illness, a new medicine was produced, but the side effects turned the patients into vampires. Humanity went to war against this new species and triumphed, but some of the vampires managed to survive. Born from a Human and a Vampire, the main character Mi Liu, “The Child of Hope”, is to represent the new hope that will connect the two species. Ringleader of a bank robbery, Mi Liu is arrested and transferred to a special prison of the National Defense Agency that monitors Vampires (国安部特管局(こくあんぶとっかんきょく). Trying to break free with Anji, Mi Liu is attacked by strange monsters and he finds out that the prison location corresponds to the birthplace of Vampires, the old capital “Blue Town” (青里(あおり)). Why are Vampires trapped in Blue Town? What are those strange monsters attacking them? Our heroes must fight to solve those mysteries.

Mili, who previously gained fame thanks to smartphone music game Deemo, performs the opening theme song, "与我共鳴-NENTEN-," and siraph handles the ending theme, "quiet squall."

Cast members announced thus far include:

Mi Liu - Kenji Akabane (Akira in MEGANEBU!)

Anji - Eri Kitamura (Sayaka in Madoka Magica)

Lee Shin - Takuya Satou (Caesar in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure)

Lou Yao - Sho Hayami (Wolfwood in Trigun)

"Making more and more exciting animation!" is the catchphrase at Haoliners, and we'll see the results of this one next month.
