"Robotech" Producer Offers Update On Live-Action Adaptation

Completing final script is called a priority

At least weekend's Long Beach Comic Con Harmony Gold's Executive VP for overseeing Robotech, Billy Davis, presented a video message from producers Mark Canton and Gianni Nunnari about the state of the sci-fi series' live-action adaptation of HG's localization of Tatsunoko-produced mecha anime The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross and Genesis Climber MOSPEADA. While waiting for a final script, they've "never been more driven towards anything than making a great version of Robotech."

"We are really working every day to finish the new draft on Robotech," said Canton. "It's our priority."

As announced last JuneRobotech will adapt Harmony Gold's localization of Tatsunoko-produced mecha anime The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross and Genesis Climber MOSPEADA. with Gianni Nunnari and 300's Mark Canton producing and Michael Gordon (300, GI Joe) writing the script. Frank Agrama of Harmony Gold, which is the original intellectual property rights holder, will executive produce.

Concerning James Wan, the Saw and Furious 7 director who has Aquaman on his to-do list, as well as Robotech, the producers said, "everything Robotech, he knows." They explained that they shared his vision for the film, which is to honor the original franchise as much as possible while still adding a new spin on it.

"We are almost there," said Nunnari. "With this franchise, we're going to reveal a brand-new version."
