TV anime based on manga by Haruko Kumota heads into modern times with "Sukeroku Anew Arc"
Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju, a TV anime based on the manga by Haruko Kumota about men who dedicate their lives to the artform of traditional Japanese story-telling, is moving into the modern era with a 2nd season that encapsulates the "Sukeroku Anew Arc" beginning on January 06, 2017.
The Japanese broadcast schedule for season 2 of Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju will be as follows:
- TBS (Tokyo Broadcasting System): every Friday during the 26:25 time slot beginning on January 06, 2017.
- MBS (Mainichi Broadcasting Sytem): every Friday during the 26:40 time slot beginning on January 06, 2017.
- BS-TBS: every Saturday during the 24:30 time slot beginning on January 07, 2017.
Please note that some Japanese TV schedules count early-morning programming as late-night programming of the previous day, so for example the 26:25 time slot on Friday is actually at 2:25 AM JST on Saturday morning.
The original Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju manga was serialized from March 2010 - June 2016 in Kodansha's ITAN josei manga magazine. The TV series is directed by Mamoru Hateyama and features animation by Studio Deen. Crunchyroll currently streams the 1st season of Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju, and describes the series as follows:
Upon his release from prison, a man seeks out the famous comedic storyteller Yakumo after falling in love with his rendition of a story called “Shinigami.” Yakumo accepts the ex-convict as his apprentice, nicknaming him “Yotaro.” As Yotaro gets acclimated to his new life, he meets Konatsu, a girl in the care of Yakumo who wants to become a performer as well, but is unable to because she is a woman.
