Film adaptation based on Hideaki Sorachi's alt-history / sci fi / comedy manga aims for a Summer 2017 release
A trio of movie posters for the upcoming live-action Gintama film feature the main cast in costume for their roles. The posters include visuals of:
Shun Oguri as Gintoki Sakata.
Masaki Suda as Shinpachi Shimura.
And Kanna Hashimoto as Kagura.
The original Gintama manga is serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump manga magazine, and an English language version is available from Viz Media. The Gintama TV anime adaptation is also available via streaming on Crunchyroll, who describe the story as follows:
"In a world where aliens have invaded Edo Period Japan, skyscrapers, trains and motor bikes have replaced the simple life of Earth inhabitants. One man however, still carries the soul of a samurai, Gintoki Sakata, otherwise known as Yorozuya Gin-san. As reckless as he is, Gintoki carries his own resolve and is ready to take on any challenge with his fellow companions."
The live-action Gintama film is directed by Yuichi Fukuda, director of The Brave Yoshihiko TV series and the live-action Hentai Kamen films. The film aims for a release in Japanese theaters in the Summer season of 2017.
