"Sword Art Online" Takes Over Tokyo Joypolis in Latest Collaboration

Attractions will be themed to promote upcoming movie "Ordinal Scale."

Tokyo Joypolis, owned by SEGA, gives visitors the opportunity to interact with their favorite anime and game properties in a theme park setting thanks to a variety of VR-enhanced rides. And for the next month, Sword Art Online is getting realer than ever with a Joypolis collaboration that puts park attendees right in the middle of battles alongside the main characters.

Sword Art Online in Joypolis will add an SAO kick to several of the park's popular attractions, as well as offering limited-edition merch available only during the collaboration.

The Tokyo Half-Pipe will be fitted out with four SAO songs, including some tunes from the film. Depending on how well the riders do with their spins and tricks, they may also hear voiced lined by Kirito and Asuna, making it feel like they're right in the middle of the action.

The Fortune Forest, in which park-goers answer questions at several "altars" (touch-screens) to receive a fortune, will give out SAO-themed fortunes including special graphics.

The shops will also be carrying several special goods themed to the collaboration and available only during its run. Anyone who spends at least 3,000 yen at the shops will receive an SAO movie bromide.

Still with us? Good, because there's more. The Dippin' Dots will also have special themed cups, and there's also a photo kiosk where you can get your picture taken with the characters.

The takeover starts January 21 and runs until February 26. Sword Art Online the Movie -Ordinal Scale- opens February 18 in Japan and March 1 in North America.
