"Lu over the wall" Offers Moonlit Movie Poster for Valentine's Day

A love of music unites a mermaid and a junior high school boy in fantasy anime film coming in May of 2017

A new key visual has been released for Yoake Tsugeru Lu no Uta ("Lu's Song that Announces the Break of Dawn"), known in English as Lu over the wall, an upcoming theatrical anime film about the friendship between a little mermaid and a junior high school boy.

In Lu over the wall, Kai is a junior high school student from Tokyo who moves with his father and grandfather to the sleepy fishing port of Hinashi-chou after his parents divorce. Depressed and unable to understand his parents' feelings, Kai's only solace is the music that he composes and uploads to the Internet.

One day, Kai is invited by a classmate to join a band named "Seireen", and when he goes to their rehearsal spot, he encounters a mermaid named Lu who loves to sing and to dance. Their mutual love of music draws Kai out of his shell, but mermaids have long been considered harbingers of disaster in Hinashi-chou. Will Kai and Lu be able to overcome the prejudices of the townsfolk?

Lu over the wall is directed by Masaaki Yuasa and features animation by Science SARU. The film hits Japanese theaters on May 19, 2017.
