Legendaries Come to "Pokémon GO" Soon, So Get Ready to Cooperate

Debut lines up with this weekend's Pokémon GO Fest

If you've been holding out for the appearance of Legendary Pokémon in Pokémon GO, prepare yourself for some collective effort this weekend. Niantic and The Pokémon Company are celebrating the mobile AR game's one-year anniversary with the addition of Legendaries, with the first set to coincide with this weekend's Pokémon GO Fest Chicago.

The event takes place at Grant Park on July 22, and if the initial requirements are met, Trainers all over the world will get a chance to attempt to catch the first Legendary.

Here's a trailer, which brings us back to the way we all wish Pokémon GO actually looked and played.

And here's the full breakdown from Niantic:

Once in the wild, Trainers can search for unique Legendary Eggs at Gym locations around the world. Players can team up with friends and other Trainers to join a Legendary Raid Battle to defeat the Legendary Pokémon and earn a chance to catch it.

The battle against the first Legendary Pokémon will require teamwork from millions of Trainers around the world in order to be revealed at Pokémon GO Fest Chicago at Grant Park on July 22. Trainers from all corners of the earth must work together to catch Pokémon during the Pokémon GO Fest Challenge Windows to unlock in-game bonuses and the chance for the first Legendary Pokémon to appear at Pokémon GO Fest. If Trainers successfully defeat the Legendary Pokémon in Chicago, that Pokémon will start appearing in Raid Battles around the world after Pokémon GO Fest.

Niantic and The Pokémon Company International recently announced a variety of in-game and real-world activities that will bring Trainers together in new and unique ways this summer to celebrate Pokémon GO’s first anniversary. In addition to Pokémon GO Fest Chicago, Trainers in Europe can also look forward to Pokémon GO Safari Zone events hosted across Europe from August through September in partnership with Unibail-Rodamco shopping centers. A unique Pokémon GO experience will also appear at Pikachu Outbreak in Yokohama, Japan in August.
