Belgian Tech Student Crafts Record Winning "Largest Game Boy"

Giant-size portable video game console is fully functional and just over 1 meter tall

Ilhan Ünal, a Brussels-based university student studying multimedia and communications who works weekends as a hardware / software developer, has won a Guinness World Record for crafting the largest fully functional replica of the Nintendo Game Boy portable video game console.

The jumbo-sized handheld console measures 1.01 meters (3.31 feet) tall, 0.62 meters (2.03 feet) wide, and 0.2 meters (0.66 feet) deep. The "Largest Gameboy" is powered by a tiny Raspberry Pi single-board computer, and it's capable of playing any cartridge released for the original Nintendo Game Boy system.

Describing his motivations for creating the "Largest Game Boy", Ünal stated:

"The Game Boy was a huge part of many people's childhoods, including my own. I was obsessed with my Game Boy as a kid, so I wanted to create something that would put a smile on little Ilhan's face, and hopefully on the face of anyone who is a big kid at heart,"
