This year marks the 30th anniversary of Rumiko Takahashi's classic Ranma 1/2, and there was no way we were getting through it without a collaboration cafe popping up. THE GUEST Cafe & Diner will be hosting the themed event in three cities across Japan starting next month, and they're using modern technology to bring the show to life.
As one would expect, there are plenty of themed dishes to try, each decorated with cutouts from the manga. There's Neko Hanten ramen:
Cursed springs hot pot:
A "Special Moves" sampler plate:
And -- if you're feeling brave enough -- Akane's special training meal (she was trying to make curry):
There are also themed drinks and desserts and... yes, of course there is okonomiyaki:
For an extra 250 yen, you can get your ramen with an extra "VR topping": a recreation of the manga chapter Eyes on the Prize (from the Martial Arts Takeout Race arc).
Naturally, you can pick up some limited-edition merch, too.
Acrylic keychain (10 types): 400 yen each
Badge (4 types): 300 yen each
Lunch Tote: 1,200 yen
Muffler Towel: 2,300 yen
Masking Tape (2 types): 550 yen each
Speech Bubble White Boards: 1,800 yen
Manga Dish: 2,000 yen (sold later in the period)
Ribbon Hair Clips (Ranma or Shampoo): 1,800 yen each (sold later in the period)
Ukyo Spatula: 3,000 yen (limit 100 units per location)
Shirts, clear files, and other resale items from the Natalie Store will also be in stock.
The Ranma 1/2 cafe runs November 9-December 19 in Osaka, November 22-December 25 in Nagoya, and opens in January 2018 in Fukuoka.
