Masakazu Katsura's Teen Romance Manga "I"s" Gets Live-Action TV Drama in 2018

Second live-action adaptation project for the author, following "Video Girl Ai" (1991)

Japanese digital satellite broadcaster SKY PerfecTV! announced today on October 30 that a live-action drama adaptation of Masakazu Katsura (Video Girl Ai, DNA², ZETMAN)'s teen romance manga I"s will be aired on its BS Skaper channel and streamed on Skaper On Demand service sometime in 2018. This is the second live-action adaptation based on the author's manga work, follwoing Denei Shoujo/Video Girl Ai directed by Ryu Kaneda (Garo series) in 1991.


Katsura says, "I appreciate so much because the staff are filled with love for the manga. I have been involved in many things, so I am really looking forward to the day it is completed!"


It was also confirmed that 23-year-old actor Amane Okayama (Yosuke Sasaki in Teiichi: Battle of Supreme High, Satoshi Fukube in Hyouka) is cast as the protagonist Ichitaka Seto, who is in his second year of high school in the beginning of the manga story. Other cast members will be kept

secret till next spring. The shooting has already begun and is scheduled to continue till the next year.


The manga was serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump from 1997 to 2000. It compiled in 15-

volume regular edition tankobon, 12-volume perfect edition, and nine-volume bunko edition. They

have reportedly printed over 10 million copies in total in Japan. the manga was previously adapted into

two OVA series: two-volume "From I"s ~Mouhitotsu no Natsu no Monogatari" in 2002-2003 and six-

volume "I"s Pure" in 2005.
