Japan Box Office: "Godzilla: Monster Planet" Delivers 103 Million Yen Opening, Ranking 3rd

"Kirakira PreCure" and "Is The Order a Rabbit??" still stay in the top 10

According to the box office report for the weekend of November 18-19, Godzilla: Kaiju Wakusei/Monster Planet, the first part of Polygon Pictures' trilogy anime film project inspired by Toho's long-running Godzilla franchise, brought in 103 million yen on 712,000 admissions in its first weekend, taking third in the ranking.

The 89-minute first Japanese Godzilla anime feature film's opening weekend gross was 16.5% of that of the most recent Japanese Godzilla film, Shin Godzilla, opened with 625 million yen in July 2016, and almost half of that of the recent successful anime film Kirakira PreCure a la Mode The Movie's 193 million yen in the end of the last month. Judging from the so-so result, Kaiju Wakusei/Monster Planet is expected to earn around 500 million yen from its domestic run. The second part titled "Kessen Kidou Zoushoku Toshi" (literally translated: Decisive Battle: Mobile Breeder City) is already slated for May 2018.
