Comic Gene's high school rom-com is coming to TV.
Akkun and Nontan are one of the weirdest couples in modern anime: a cheerful girl and her boyfriend who lapses between high-key tsundere and adoring stalker. If you've yet to meet the pair, you'll have your chance soon, as Akkun and His Girlfriend is coming to TV soon.
Based on the manga by Waka Kakitsubata, the series will follow Atsuhiro "Akkun" Kagari and his relationship with his girlfriend, Non "Nontan" Katagiri. Akkun takes the "tsundere" dichotomy to new extremes, with his "tsun" side bordering on verbally abusive and his "dere" side leading him to stalk and eavesdrop on his beloved girlfriend.
How does Nontan feel about this? Apparently she thinks it's adorable.
Akkun and His Girlfriend is serialized in Comic Gene, who also published Aquarion Evol and Vatican Miracle Examiner. The graphic novel compilations have sold more than 480,000 copies, with Kakitsubata's Pixiv racking up more than 11 million views.
To celebrate the news, the creator dropped some sweet art on Twitter:
The news was announced in line with the release of volume 7 of the manga, which comes out tomorrow. More information on the anime's production will be released in later volumes of Comic Gene.
