"A Place Further Than the Universe" Adds 6 More Intrepid Explorers

Original TV anime about high school girls making an Antarctic voyage begins broadcasting in January of 2018

Six more cast members have been announced for A Place Further Than the Universe (known as Uchuu Yorimo Tooi Basho in Japanese), an upcoming original TV anime that follows a group of high school girls as they journey to Antarctica. The new cast members include:

Mamiko Noto as Gin Toudou, the captain of the Antarctic Challenge, a private Antarctic observation vessel. Gin Toudou has known Takako Kobuchizawa, the mother of Shirase Kobuchizawa, since they were in high school together. Gin was a member of a previous Antarctic expedition three years ago where Takako went missing, and she blames herself for her friend's disappearance. Gin is a capable leader, but she is often misunderstood because she is a woman of few words.

Yōko Hikasa as Kanae Maekawa, the vice-captain of the Antarctic Challenge. She knows Gin and Takako from a previous Antarctic expedition. Kanae was originally a company woman, and her quick-thinking and fast-talking nature makes her popular with men. Kanae handles all of the negotiations for Gin, and she is rumored to be the brains of the operation.

Lynn as Yumiko Samejima, the ship's cook for the Antarctic Challenge and a self-proclaimed "Antartic chef". Originally from Okinawa, Yumiko is acclimatized to cold weather and has a hearty, strong-spirited personality. She's always willing to talk and she acts as an elder sister figure to Kimari and the other girls.

Hisako Kanemoto as Megumi Takahashi, Kimari's childhood friend whom she has known since kindergarten. Unlike Kimari, Megumi is level-headed and tends not to get super-excited about things, but she is secretly envious when Kimari decides to go on her Antarctic expedition.

Kaede Hondo as Rin Tamaki, Kimari's younger sister. Rin is a very steady and capable person who serves as a class officer in her school. While she worries about Kimari going to Antarctica, she is also rooting for her big sister with all of her heart.

And as Sayaka Ohara as Tamiko Shiraishi, the mother of Yuzuki Shiraishi and also her manager. A so-called "stage mom", Tamiko has been working ceaselessly to make Yuzuki famous since the day she was born.

Additionally, the ending theme of A Place Further Than the Universe is entitled "Koko kara, koko kara" ("From here, from here") and it will be performed in-character by Mari Tamaki (voiced by Inori Minase), Shirase Kobuchizawa (voiced by Kana Hanazawa), Hinata Miyake (voiced by Yuka Iguchi), and Yutsuki Shiraishi (voiced by Saori Hayami).

A Place Further Than the Universe is directed by Atsuko Ishizuka and features animation by MADHOUSE. The series will broadcast on Tokyo MX, AT-X, and other stations beginning on January 02, 2018, and it will also be available via streaming on Crunchyroll. Crunchyroll describes A Place Further Than the Universe as follows:

Our first step was always curiosity. For unseen sights, unheard sounds, unsmelled scents, untouched textures, untasted tastes, and unfelt excitement. We travel to find the bits and pieces that we’d forgotten at some point. Howling at 40 degrees, going mad at 50 degrees, screaming at 60 degrees, to the primordial lands beyond the great oceans, at the edge of the earth, far removed from human civilization. This is the story of four girls who travel to the Antarctic, further even than outer space.
