2nd chapter in animated theatrical film trilogy hits theaters in Japan in May of 2018
The 2nd installment in the Godzilla: Monster Planet anime theatrical film trilogy is stomping to Japanese theaters in May of 2018, and to the keep the anticipation for the next film high, TOHO animation has released a "character preview video" that features the main cast getting walloped by a Godzilla so big that it's code-named "Godzilla Earth".
At 300 meters (984 feet) tall, Godzilla Earth is the largest Godzilla in the Godzilla film series, which kicked off with a 50 meter tall Godzilla in the original 1954 film. The Big G has really been packing on the pounds in his 20,000 year reign over future Earth.
Gozilla: Monster Planet is directed by Kōbun Shizuno and Hiroyuki Seshita and features animation by Polygon Pictures and Toho Animation. The film is set in the far-flung future, when the Earth has been completely overrun by giant monsters. After a deep-space colonization attempt fails, a small group of survivors tries to take back the planet.
Godzilla: Monster Planet is the first part of a planned trilogy of films. It was released in theaters in Japan on November 17, 2017. The 2nd film, entitled Godzilla - Decisive Battle: Mobile Breeder City, hits theaters in Japan in May of 2018. The films will also receive worldwide digital distribution via Netflix.
