Theatrical adaptation based on novel by Nisio Isin heads to Kobe and Tokyo in May of 2018
Nision Isin's Chinese Zodiac-inspired deathmatch light novel, JUNI TAISEN: ZODIAC WAR, has already been adapted into a manga and a TV anime, and now it's getting a new treatment as a live-action stage play that will run in Kobe and Tokyo in May of 2018. The play is written and directed by Naohiro Ise, and it features music by Go Shiina and sponsorship by Avex Pictures.
In addition to the key visual above, the cast has also been announced for the stage-play, including:
- Ryō Kitamura as Rat.
- Koudai Takikawa as Ox.
- Miho Imamura as Tiger.
- Kouji Saikawa as Rabbit.
- Shouhei Hoshimoto as the Elder Tsumita Brother, Dragon.
- Shin'ya Hasegawa as the Younger Tsumita Brother, Snake.
- Masafumi Yokoyama as Horse.
- Yuuya Hara as Sheep.
- Yume Takeuchi as Monkey.
- Yui Umemura as Rooster.
- Tatsuya Isaka as Dog.
- Asana Mamoru as Boar.
- And Shūhei Izumi as Duedeculpe.
The original JUNI TAISEN: ZODIAC WAR novel is written by Nisio Isin and features illustrations by Hikaru Nakamura. An English language version of the book is published by Viz Media, who describe the story as follows:
Twelve warriors enter a death match, but only one can survive to win the ultimate prize.
Rampage. Weep. Kill. Every 12 years, the 12 signs of the Chinese zodiac take the form of warriors and engage in the ultimate battle royal. They face one another in battles to the death, using all the powers of their star signs, and the sole survivor is granted the ultimate prize—a wish. Any wish.
The JUNI TAISEN: ZODIAC WAR stage play will run from May 04 - 05, 2018, at the Shin Kobe Oriental City venue in Kobe, and from May 09 - 13, 2018, at the THEATRE1010 venue in Tokyo. The ticket prices for the performances have not yet been announced.
