Live-action drama will begin airing on TV Tokyo on January 13
In commemoration of the upcoming premiere of the live-action TV drama Denei Shoujo ~VIDEO GIRL AI 2018~ next week, a newly drawn one-shot manga of Denei Shoujo/Video Girl Ai by the original author Masakazu Katsura is published in the latest 5th/6th combined issue of Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump released today on January 4. It has been 26 years since the manga series' original serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump ended in 1992. The one-shot is based on the story of the TV drama's first episode.
The story of the TV drama is set in 2018, 26 years after the original manga's "Video Girl Ai" arc, and features the original protagonist Youta Moteuchi's nephew Shou, played by 23-year-old Shuhei Nomura (Taichi Mashima in Chihayafuri). And Nanase Nishino, a 23-year-old member of Japanese girl idol group Nogizaka46, is cast as the video girl Ai Amano. The relationship between the new Ai and the original Ai in the manga story is currently unknown. The drama's 39-day shooting was wrapped
up on December 29. It is scheduled to premiere in TV Tokyo's 30-minute midnight programming block
