Lupin heads to modern France in his latest adventure
The fifth Lupin III TV anime series was first revealed last July along with the image above, teasing very little other than a France setting. That setting has since been updated to reflect modern times, and the official website also provided more information on the premiere timing and main staff for the project.
Lupin The Third Part 5 will premiere this April, with Part 4 director Yuichiro Yano (Aikatsu!, Francesca) back at the helm to direct along with Ichiro Okouchi (Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, Code Geass) on scripts and Hisao Yokobori (character design and animation direction for Lupin III Italian Game) on character designs at Telecom Animation Film.
While the modern setting won't keep Lupin from busting out his classic cars and guns, it will give him a chance to work his magic using the Internet and modern mobile devices. Fans in Japan will get a chance to see some footage during this week's Friday Road Show! TV broadcast of the Miyazaki-directed 1979 anime film Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro.
