Japanese fans to get a double dose of super robot action next month
The granddaddy of all super robots will be teaming up with his American nephew next month for a special event that -- frankly -- makes absolutely all the sense in the world.
On February 4, a special screening of Mazinger Z/Infinity will be held, at which Japanese fans will get their first glimpse of the upcoming Pacific Rim Uprising. The event will be held at Tokyo's United Cinema Toyosu... and just to make it even cooler, theme singer Ichiro Mizuki (known to the anison and robot fan world as "Aniki") will be in attendance.
Additionally, attendees of the event will receive art cards featuring new art of both Mazinger Z and Koji Kabuto.
In honor of the announcement, a new video was released showing the new film's progress around the world, along with Aniki, creator Go Nagai, and the cast. Check it out for a listen to one of his live performances of the memorable theme, clips from the movie, and a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment with Go Nagai and Guillermo del Toro.
Mazinger Z/Infinity will be released in the US via Fathom Events for a limited engagement February 11 and 12. Pacific Rim Uprising will hit US theaters March 23.
