The opening theme song performer has been revealed for Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online, an upcoming TV anime based on a series of spin-off light novels inspired by the Sword Art Online series. The opening theme, entitled "Ryuusei" ("Meteor"), is performed by Eir Aoi.

Eir Aoi has previously performed theme songs for such series as Sword Art Online, Kill la Kill, and Mobile Suit Gundam AGE.

The original Sword Art Online Alternative Gun Gale Online light novels are written by Keiichi Sigsawa, illustrated by Kouhaku Kuroboshi, and published in Japan by ASCII Media Works (a division of Kadokawa) under their Dengeki Bunko imprint. An English language version is also in-development from Yen Press, who describe the story as follows:

The fact that Kohiruimaki Karen is 183 centimeters tall has always been something she's felt extremely self-conscious about as an introverted high school girl. But in the world of games, she can be whoever she wants to be! In the popular Gun Gale Online game, she's Ren, a short, all pink, P90 wielding bombshell who's aiming to win the next battle royale!

The Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online TV anime is directed by Masayuki Sakoi and features animation by Studio 3Hz. The series will begin broadcasting in April on Tokyo MX, BS11, Tochigi TV, Gunma Television, MBS (Mainichi Broadcasting System), and Aichi Television Broadcasting.
