Square Enix's "Idol Fantasy" Mixes Idol Training and Magic on Mobile

Tetsuya Nomura to provide some character designs for iOS/Android game

Last week we posted about an Idol Fantasy trademark Square Enix had recently registered. Thoughts of continuing the adventures of FFX-2, or perhaps just handing a mic to Zidane or Squall, swirled in our heads. The reality isn't quite as wish-fulfilling, but it does blend fantasy and reality together.

Idol Fantasy has been formally announced as a mobile game that brings heroes from a world of swords and sorcery over to dazzle our own world as idols. Players will be tasked with training said idols with the hopes of sending them straight to the top, and it's all due out on iOS and Android devices in Japan this summer.

The official website is now live. There's also an idol page where you can see designs for some of the units, including Brave Hearts, E-lements, Jingi, and Sweets Monster. Various Square Enix artists have been working on designs, and there will even be an idol unit featuring designs by Kingdom Hearts' Tetsuya Nomura:
