Head's up, aviation fans: STUDIO GHIBLI FEST 2018, a year-long series of screenings sponsored by GKIDS and Fathom Events that celebrates the fantastical animated films of Studio Ghibli, is continuing in May with limited U.S. screenings of Porco Rosso, a 1992 film about an Italian aviator who has been mysteriously transformed into a pig.
The event will feature screenings of Porco Rosso both in an English dubbed format and in the original Japanese language with English subtitles according to the following schedule:
Sunday, May 20 at 12:55 p.m. local time (English-dubbed).
Wednesday, May 23 at 7:00 p.m. local time (English-dubbed).
Monday, May 21 at 7:00 p.m. local time (English-language subtitled).
Porco Rosso is directed by Hayao Miyazaki and features animation by Studio Ghibli. GKIDS describes the story of Porco Rosso as follows:
Set in a mid-war Italy swept by fascism, the film follows the life of Marco, a world-weary flying ace-turned bounty hunter who plies his trade above the waters of the Adriatic. Somewhere along the way a curse has transformed Marco’s head into the head of a pig, reflecting his loss of faith in humanity. Marco meets his polar opposite in the innocent and energetic 17-year-old Fio, an aspiring airplane designer, and the two are catapulted into an airborne adventure pursued by air pirates, the Italian army, and an egotistical American flying ace.
