Early Nineties nostalgia is the name of the game in adaptation based on manga by Rensuke Oshikiri
Video game rivalries escalate quickly in the new long-form trailer for Hi Score Girl, an upcoming TV anime about a middle school boy who is good at video games and the friends (and enemies) that he makes in his adventures at the local video arcade.
The original Hi Score Girl manga is serialized in Square Enix's Monthly Big Gangan seinen manga magazine. The story is set in 1991, and it follows Haruo Yaguchi, a boy whose only real skill is his mastery of video games, and Akira Oono, a quiet, rich, and popular girl who wallops Haruo at Street Fighter II every chance that she gets. Over time, their rivalry takes on a more affectionate tone.
The Hi Score Girl TV anime is directed by Yoshinobu Yamakawa and features animation by J.C. Staff. The series will broadcast in Japan on Tokyo MX, MBS, and BS11 beginning on July 13, 2018.
