Adaptation based on manga about bare-knuckle brawlers will stream on Netflix beginning in 2019
The central cast has been announced for Kengan Ashura, an upcoming TV anime based on the violent seinen martial arts manga written by Sandrovich Yabako and illustrated by Daromeon about hot-blooded fighters who participate in illegal underground fighting tournaments at the behest of their corporate sponsors. The main cast for Kengan Ashura includes:
- Tatsuhisa Suzuki as Ohma Tokita, aka "Ashura".
- Chō as Kazuo Yamashita.
- Jôji Nakata as Hideki Nogi.
- And Yumi Uchiyama as Kaede Akiyama.
The original Kengan Ashura manga is serialized in Shogakukan's Ura Sunday digital magazine. The story follows Ohma Tokita, an independent fighter who battles in underground tournaments where rich elites place huge wagers on the outcomes of matches. Nicknamed "Ashura" due to his unstoppable fighting style, Ohma soon attracts the attention of unscrupulous businessmen and his fellow fighters alike.
The Kengan Ashura TV anime is directed by Seiji Kishi and features animation production by LARX ENTERTAINMENT. The series will broadcast on Japanese TV and also stream on Netflix in Japan and other world markets beginning in 2019.
