When you're choosing someone to perform your film's ending theme, you might not usually opt for the villain of the piece. But if he's also an amazing singer, why not?
Voice actor Koichi Yamadera (Spike Spiegel in Cowboy Bebop, Inspector Zenigata in Lupin III) reprises the role of Dessler in the new Yamato 2202 films. He was as surprised as anyone when he was asked to sing the sixth film's ending theme, "Ooinaru Yawa."
"I thought I had misheard," Yamadera says of being asked to sing the theme. "Why me?" Of course, he's a singer in his own right, regardless of what role he plays. He talks more about the experience, and previews a bit of the song, in the video below:
The single featuring both new songs, "Ooinaru Yawa" and "Youranka," comes out October 31. The sixth Yamato 2202 film hits Japanese cinemas on November 3.
