Sony plans to start testing the feature soon
Are you tired of being known as InuYashaFan420 on PlayStation Network? You've seen so many anime series since then, so you should totally be able to change your online ID to VapeLord_Boruto. Well, Sony will finally start letting users change their PSN Online ID soon, with a PlayStation Preview Program kicking things off for some ahead of a full launch in early 2019.
The Preview Program will be available to those who have pre-registered as testers for previous software betas on PS4. Once the ability to change IDs goes live for everyone, you'll be able to do it as often as you want… for a price. While the first change is free, any subsequent changes will cost $9.99, or $4.99 for PlayStation Plus members.
Changing your ID will be easy. All you have to do is make the change through the Settings menu or the PS4 profile page. You'll even be able to display your previous ID alongside the new one so friends know who you are.
Sony has more details on the PlayStation Blog, including this important note about compatibility with software:
This feature is compatible with PS4 games originally published after April 1, 2018, and a large majority of the most-played PS4 games that were released before this date. However, please note not all games and applications for PS4, PS3 and PS Vita systems are guaranteed to support the online ID change, and users may occasionally encounter issues or errors in certain games. If for any reason you experience issues after changing your ID, you can revert back to your original ID for free at any time (you will only be able to revert once during the preview program). Reverting back to an old ID will resolve most issues caused by the ID change. In addition, when this feature officially launches, a list of compatible games published before April 1, 2018, will be provided on PlayStation.com for reference before you make a change.
