Japanese fans of the Gojira / Godzilla franchise will soon have a chance to prove their bona fides, because Toho Studios is sponsoring the "1st Annual Godzilla Certification Exams" in anticipation of the 65th anniversary of the venerable monster movie film series.
The exams will be held in Tokyo and Osaka on March 10, 2019, and will be divided into two difficulty levels: beginner and intermediate. The entry fee for the beginner level exam is 5000 yen ($44.46 US), while the entry fee for the intermediate level exam is 6000 yen ($53.36 US). Test takers can also apply to take both exams for a discounted fee of 9500 yen ($84.48 US). Fans can submit their applications to take the exams at a special website.
The beginner level exam features multiple choice questions taken from the Godzilla Exams Official Text book (published by Takarajimasha) as well as questions pertaining to the original 1954 Gojira film and 2016's Shin Godzilla. The intermediate level exam features multiple choice questions taken from the Godzilla Exams Official Text as well as all 29 of the Godzilla films produced in Japan.
To earn a passing grade and receive an official certificate, those who take the test must answer at least 65% of the questions correctly for the beginner level exam or at least 70% of the questions correctly for the intermediate level exam. Additionally, limited edition character goods will be available for purchase at the test-taking venues on the day of the exam.
