Twelve Kingdoms Staff Hints at New Book in 2019

Manuscript currently undergoing revisions and illustration

Nearly 18 years since its last main-line release, Fuyumi Ono's light novel series The Twelve Kingdoms looks to have another installment on the way.

Ono's staff announced on December 12 (appropriately enough) that the first draft of the new manuscript has been completed. Editing and preparing illustrations are currently underway. While they don't have a set release date pinned down, they say it will be released sometime in 2019.

The light novel series began in 1992 and concluded its run in 2001. In 2013, a book of short stories came out, set in different kingdoms around the world of the series.

Ono's upcoming work, which takes place in the Kingdom of Tai, is apparently 2,500 pages long (with up to 400 Japanese characters per page). It's uncertain what what that will translate to in its print run, but some quick math shows it's going to be fairly "epic" in page count.
