MF GHOST celebrates 1 million sales with custom car
Initial D creator Shuichi Shigeno really loves 86es, and it shows in his new manga series, MF GHOST—more so now that a real concept car exists!
To celebrate 1 million sales of the series, the bright red Toyota GT86 driven by protagonist Kanata in chapter 7 has been turned into an actual concept car. The car is fine-tuned to the manga's specifications, and (of course) there's only one in existence.
The car was created with the help of retired racers Juichi Wakisaka and Tetsuya Yamano, along with assistance from 11 different auto parts manufacturers. It's preparing to tour showrooms in Japan and abroad. First, though, it will appear at Makuhari Messe's Tokyo Auto Salon 2019, along with race queens for the newly established MFG Angels team.
MF GHOST premiered in Young Magazine in 2017, taking place in the same universe as Shigeno's popular Initial D. The series takes place in the 2020s, at a time of self-driving cars and a racing circuit known as MFG. Racer Kanata Livington comes to Japan after training at a racing school in England, joining the MFG circuit to find his father.
