"Season 4" kicks off with a BL twist
Bkub Okawa recently announced that the Pop Team Epic manga would be coming to an end after Season 3, but—surprising no one—it's back. What is surprising is the comic's new look for Season 4.
Season 3 of the digitally-published manga ended with Popuko and Pipimi being told they would in fact be continuing. However, Season 4 is being reimagined as a boys' love manga:
While Okawa himself is still penning the story, BL manga artist Harada has taken the art reins for the time being. Their first full page with the new designs reimagines the popular gut-punch of the manga and anime:
One more page has come out so far featuring the boy-type Popuko and Pipimi. This could be the actual direction of Season 4, or we could be getting set up for another Hoshiiro Girldrop scenario, with the Popuko and Pipimi we know returning to the page after a few installments. Only time will tell.
