Dragon Ball Super: Broly Hits #1 in U.S. Box Office With $7 Million Day

20th Dragon Ball franchise feature scores a $5,695 per-screen average

Dragon Ball Super: Broly officially opened in U.S. cinemas yesterday, and the anime film proceeded to snag the #1 spot in the country. Broly did so with an average of $5,695 per screen, leading to a day one box office of over $7 million.

Broly opened on 1,440 screens—which include 180 IMAX and Cinemark XD premium large format showings—and its success made it the biggest event film opening and the new opening day record for Funimation Films. Broly also ranks fifth on the list of highest-earning theatrical anime openings of all time.

Funimation Films' previous record was held by 2015's Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F' movie, which opened at $1.97 million.
