Mamoru Hosoda's Mirai Anime Film Gets Some Oscar Nomination Love

Hosoda joins the likes of Brad Bird and Wes Anderson in the category


The nominations have been revealed for the 91st Academy Awards, and there's a small slice of anime love among them. This year sees Mamoru Hosoda being recognized for his anime film Mirai, which is among the nominees in the Animated Feature category.

“Incredibles 2,” Brad Bird

“Isle of Dogs,” Wes Anderson

“Mirai,” Mamoru Hosoda

“Ralph Breaks the Internet,” Rich Moore, Phil Johnston

“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, Rodney Rothman


As far as other nerd-adjacent media that made it into the nominations, Black Panther received nods for Best Picture, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Production Design, Original Score, Original Song, and Costume Design. The Visual Effects noms include Avengers: Infinity War, Christopher Robin, First Man, Ready Player One, and Solo: A Star Wars story.
