Overlord: Mass for the Dead Mobile RPG Launches in Japan This Week

Original story to accompany turn-based 3D battles starting February 21

Kugane Maruyama and illustrator so-bin's Overlord novels are making the leap to another form of media this week. Developer Exys announced plans to release a smartphone RPG called Overlord: Mass for the Dead, with the Japanese launch officially set for February 21.

Since there are already 500,000 pre-registrations for the game, players will be rewarded with 1,100 gems after booting it up. Once they're in, they can look forward to an original story with familiar characters from the series, many of which have their own unlockable scenarios. The meat of the gameplay involves 3D turn-based battles, and multiplayer will be added into the mix on February 22.

There's currently no word on a western release for Mass for the Dead.
