Afro Tanaka, a long-running seinen gag manga series by Masaharu Noritsuke about a young man with righteous afro hairstyle, is being adapted into a live-action TV drama that will broadcast in Japan on WOWOW beginning in July of 2019. The series is directed by Yusuke Ishida and stars actor Kento Kaku as the lead character, the afro-sporting Hiroshi Tanaka.
Afro Tanaka has been serialized from 2002 in Shogakukan's Big Comic Spirits seinen manga magazine, and the series was also adapted into a live-action film with direction by Daigo Matsui in 2012. The new TV drama will run for 10 episodes.
