Highly-anticipated second film is set to be released on July 19, 2019
The official website for the live-action film project based on Sui Ishida's dark fantasy manga series
Tokyo Ghoul has started streaming a 60-second full trailer for its upcoming second film introducing
33-year-old actor Shouta Matsuda (Ikigami, Afro Tanaka) as its main antagonist Shu Tsukiyama for
the first time.
30-year-old Masataka Kubota (Light Yagami in the Death Note TV darma) reprises his role as the film's
protagonist Ken Kaneki. Meanwhile, 21-year-old fashion model/actress Maika Yamamoto (Kaede Kayano
in Assassination Classroomlive-action films) is newly cast as its main heroine Touka Kirishima. As reported,
Fumika Shimizu who portrayed Touka in the first film has joined the Happy Science religion and decided
to perform only for the cult religious group's promotional films.
The sequel, now officially titled Tokyo Ghoul 【S】, is set to be released in Japan on July 19, 2019, just
two years after the first film's release day of July 29, 2017. In place of the first film's Kentaro Hagiwara,
Takuya Kawasaki and Kazuhiko Hiramaki, both are known for their CM works, serve as co-director. Chuji
Mikasano, who worked on the Tokyo Ghoul TV anime (2014) and stage play (2015), provides a screenplay.
