Brace Yourselves—Pikachu Outbreak 2019 Is Coming

Yokohama prepares for a summer Pokévasion

Pikachu's world conquest continues this summer as Yokohama prepares for its next outbreak of the beloved electric Pokémon.

For one week in August, the city will host events, decorations, and more devoted to Pikachu. You can expect to find "Pokégenic" decorations all around town, perfect for selfies. There will also be a Pokémon GO event during the outbreak.

The biggest attraction, though, is the army of giant Pikachus who will be roaming Yokohama during the event. There will also be major performances using high-end effect provided by stage effects company m plus plus Co., Ltd. LED-decorated Pikachus and projection mapping will come together at the Yokohama Museum of Art (seen above). Red Brick Park, adjacent to the city's Red Brick Warehouse, will host a performance featuring Pikachus and fountains. And Rinko Park will be the site of the largest-ever performance of dancing Pikachus—50, to be precise.

Thanks to their popularity last year, the Pikachu and Eevee marches will also be returning.

Yokohama's Pikachu Outbreak 2019 runs August 6-12, with major performances taking place at 7 pm on their respective evenings.
