The Ghost in the Shell director is working with Ichigo Animation on the project
Fans of anime director Mamoru Oshii—known for decades of acclaimed productions, including Urusei Yatsura 2: Beautiful Dreamer, Angel's Egg, and the highly influential Ghost in the Shell, among many others—now have some new work to look forward to. The creator is teaming up with Ichigo Animation—a subsidiary recently established by Japanese real estate and clean energy production company Ichigo—on the project, which is currently planned to be an anime series coming to broadcast and streaming services sometime from spring to early summer of 2020.
Oshii's credits on the new work include original story, script, and chief direction. Ichigo Animation will produce as sole investor in the series.
Around this time last year we posted about Oshii directing an anime adaptation of Baku Yumemakura's Chimera science fiction novels. There's no mention whether or not this new Ichigo Animation production is related, so we'll just have to wait and see what Oshii is cooking up for next year. According to this tweet, though, it's something Oshii has been mulling over for the past decade.
