Saudi Arabia's animation and game developing company Manga Productions revealed the details about its new anime feature film titled The Journey, including a 60-second teaser trailer, at the 72nd Cannes Film Festival on Sunday.
This is their second collaboration work with Japan's Toei Animation, following The Woodcutter's Treasure produced last year. Based on the basic structure and concept created by Manga Productions, the two companies have been producing the film in both Japan and Saudi Arabia.
Koubun Shizuno (Detective Conan, Godzilla Monster Planet) served as director of the film inspired by the history and culture of ancient Arabia, alongside screenplay writer Atsuhiro Tomioka (Pokémon, Inazuma Eleven), character designer Tatsuro Iwamoto (Ace Attorney series), and soundtrack composer Kaoru Wada (Inuyasha, D.Gray-man).
It is scheduled to take two years and three months until the 100-minute film's completion, and more
than 330 staff have been working on the project. It is set to be released in Japan, Saudi Arabia and
worldwide in 2020.
