There's no such thing as retirement for this legendary manga hero
It's been 40 years since Kinnikuman first debuted in the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump, and this summer he's coming back to the magazine for the first time in 11 years
The manga series, which premiered in Jump back in 1979, has been drawn on and off by manga duo Yudetamago across several magazines. Spinoffs have made their way through Weekly Playboy, V Jump, and others, with anime adaptations and series like Ramenman close behind. Kinnikuman came back in 2011, this time in Shu Play News.
"Sayonara, Kinnikuman" will run in issue 29 of the mag, featuring a retirement party for the title hero. The "Kinnikuman Festival" will feature appearances from 10 other Choujin making an appearance for the big day. The 47-page special will mark the first time in 11 years that Kinnikuman has graced the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump.
Radio station Nippon Broadcasting will also be running a special on June 21 titled Yudetamago All Night Nippon GOLD in honor of the duo in charge of the series.
Weekly Shonen Jump issue 29, featuring "Sayonara, Kinnikuman," hits newsstands in Japan tomorrow.
