Evangelion OP "Cruel Angel's Thesis" Reborn with Japanese Drum Sound

The song is considered as the most performed anime song in the Heisei era

KING AMUSEMENT CREATIVE's official YouTube channel has posted a two-and half minutes sound-only preview for "Cruel Angel's Thesis MATSURI SPIRIT," a newly arranged version of the OP theme song for the Neon Genesis Evangelion TV anime featuring the wadaiko (Japanese drums) performance by internationally renowned musician Eitetsu Hayashi. Yoko Takahashi's original vocal from the song's first single released in October 1995 is reused for this new version.

Takahashi started producing this matsuri (Japanese festival)-themed version when she decided to participate in Aomori Nebuta Festival to be held this summer. Also, during her performances outside of Japan, she has felt that "Cruel Angel's Thesis" has been loved by the people around the world, and has wanted to deliver Japanese culture, such as matsuri and taiko, through her own music.

As her 29th CD single, "Cruel Angel's Thesis MATSURI SPIRIT" is set to be released in Japan on July 24, 2019.
