The anime adaptation of Yako Gureishi's Somali and the Forest Spirit manga is coming to Japanese TV and Crunchyroll in January of 2020, but those attending Crunchyroll Expo 2019 will get to see the series' debut early! The Crunchyroll co-production will premiere its first episode at this year's CRX, which takes place in San Jose from August 30 to September 1. 


The screening will take place on Friday, August 30 at 1:00 PM. Stay tuned for more info! 


Crunchyroll announced plans to simulcast Somali and the Forest Spirit back in March, and the anime recently updated with four additions to the cast.

Be the first to catch the episode 1 world premiere of a new fantasy show: Somali and the Forest Spirit! A story on the journey between a golem - the guardian of the forest - and a little girl. Don’t miss this beautifully animated show that will be simulcasting on Crunchyroll starting January 2020.



The latest cast members include:


Shizuno, an oni-like humanoid with jet black eyes and four tiny horns protruding from her forehead.


Hiroki Nanami as Shizuno. Namami is a former Takarazuka actor, and this is her first voice acting role since leaving the troupe.


Yabashira is an oni-like humanoid with jet black eyes, pointed ears, and a long pair of horns protruding from his forehead.


Tatsuhisa Suzuki as Yabashira.



Uzoi, an avian humanoid with feathers growing out of her face and hair.


Saori Hayami as Uzoi.


Haitora, an avian humanoid with a beaked face like a medieval plague doctor's mask.


And Yūki Ono as Haitora.


The original Somali and the Forest Spirit manga is serialized in North Star Pictures' Web Comic Zenyon digital manga magazine. The Somali and the Forest Spirit TV anime is directed by Kenji Yasuda and features animation production by Satelight. The series will broadcast on Japanese TV in beginning in January of 2020, and it will also be available through streaming on Crunchyroll.
