Latest theatrical anime film from Makoto Shinkai ("your name.") hits theaters in Japan on July 19, 2019

Heroine Hina Amano prays the rain away in Makoto Shinkai's Weathering With You anime theatrical film.

Magic is in the air in a new trailer for Weathering With You (known in Japan as Tenki no Ko), the latest film from director Makoto Shinkai and animation studio CoMix Wave Films. The new trailer also highlights Makoto Shinkai's previous films and features music by RADWIMPS.

GKIDS describes the story of Weathering With You as follows:

The summer of his high school freshman year, Hodaka runs away from his remote island home to Tokyo, and quickly finds himself pushed to his financial and personal limits. The weather is unusually gloomy and rainy every day, as if to suggest his future. He lives his days in isolation, but finally finds work as a writer for a mysterious occult magazine. Then one day, Hodaka meets Hina on a busy street corner. This bright and strong-willed girl possesses a strange and wonderful ability: the power to stop the rain and clear the sky...

Weathering With You hits theaters in Japan on July 19, 2019, and the film will also be screened in select U.S. theaters by GKIDS in early 2020.
