Kyoto Animation President Responds to Support Messages, Considers Building Monument in Studio's Place

Hideaki Hatta says messages from around the world have become their emotional support

Through all of the tragic events that unfolded after the devastating arson attack on Kyoto Animation's 1st Studio building, company president Hideaki Hatta has been tasked with speaking to the media and fielding questions about the aftermath. While nothing could possibly make this any easier on surviving co-workers, friends, and family members, Hatta says the worldwide messages they've received have become their "emotional support."

It will be a while before we know what's next for KyoAni, but for now Hatta is considering what to do with the site of the attack. In an interview with the media over the weekend, Hatta mentioned the possibility of demolishing Studio 1 and building a public park and monument in its place. On this matter, he said, "when I consider the staff and the people in this neighborhood, there are people who don't want to see such a gruesome sight."

Hatta may also host a memorial ceremony for the victims in the future, so stay tuned for more information on plans and how they unfold.
