40 year veteran of romantic Japanese songs, Masayuki Suzuki also sang the opening “Love Dramatic"
No one is safe from the Shinomiya and Shirogane war, including legendary Japanese singer, Masayuki Suzuki, who in an interview with Livedoor, expressed his enjoyment of KAGUYA-SAMA: LOVE IS WAR. The interview was held in the lead up to Animelo Summer Live, at which Suzuki is performing for the very first time.
Suzuki has been creating love songs in Japan for over 40 years, because of this, he is known as the King Of Love Songs. He was approached by the producer of KAGUYA-SAMA: LOVE IS WAR to sing the anime OP. This birthed the song “Love Dramatic”, which also features Actress/Model Rikka Ihara. In Suzuki’s 40 year career, he’d never had one of his songs adapted into an anime OP before.
Initially, Suzuki only wanted to watch the OP, as “having my song be set to animation was a new thing” but the anime series drew him in. “There were places where I laughed unintentionally, I enjoyed watching the Game of Love between Kaguya and the Student Council President,” he told the interviewer.
On the topic of the song, Suzuki expressed that he was glad that anime fans could enjoy his song as he was worried that they might not enjoy his music. Anime fans clearly enjoyed the song as it hit Number 1 on the digital charts in Japan. He was offered to perform at Animelo Summer Live, one of Japan’s biggest Anisong festivals, and jumped on the chance to sing. Suzuki felt that, even though he’s participated in many festivals before, singing to anime crowds will be like a “special stage” to him as he's not used to the energy of anime fans at concerts.
Suzuki will be performing on the first day of Animelo Summer Live this year, alongside the cast from Kemono Friends, fhána ("Aozora no Rhapsody", Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid OP), Konomi Suzuki (“Redo”, Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-), and many more.
