The film was completed one day before the July 18 arson attack
Kyoto Animation announced to the media on September 4 that the names of all staff who joined the production of Violet Evergarden: Gaiden - Eien to Jidou Shuki Ningyou - (Violet Evergarden: Spin-Off - Eternity and Auto Memory Doll -), including those who have less than one year's experience, will be credited as a special case. The studio has listed only the staff who have more than one year's experience in their past works. However, they have decided to introduce all of the names because of a strong request from the film's director Haruka Fujita.
Some names of the 35 victims and 34 injured people of the July 18 arson attack are expected to be included, but they will not be specified in the list.
Comment from Kyoto Animation:
"Violet Evergarden: Gaiden - Eien to Jidou Shuki Ningyou - miraculously ended its editing and was completed on July 17 (*one day before the attack). Usually, Kyoto Animation credits only those who have more than one year's experience as staff. However, we have decided to credit the name of all staff who joined the production because of a strong request from the film's director Haruka Fujita. This film is also a proof of the lives of all people who joined the production, including those who were suffered in the calamity. We hope you will see the film in a theater and enjoy it for a long time."
The spin-off film is set to be released in 73 theaters across Japan as originally planned tomorrow on September 6, 2019. And its theatrical run will be extended to three weeks from the originally-planned two weeks.
