Kyoto Animation Anime Films Headline Bakuon Film Festival in MOVIX Kyoto

“Tamako Market” and “K-ON! The Movie” to be screened alongside other music-based films

Tamako Market

The Bakuon Film Festival in MOVIX Kyoto is holding its third film festival from October 1 to 6 in Kyoto. The festival is showing a collection of films where “music” is a theme of the movie. The festival is using state of the art equipment to showcase the films with the highest possible picture and sound quality, with some of the music in the films being replaced by live performances in the theater.

Of the 11 films selected by the program's director, Yasuhito Higuchi – a respected film and music critic in Japan – 4 are anime films and the rest are films from the west. Included in the anime films are: Satoshi Kon’s Paprika, Naoko Yamada’s K-ON! The Movie and Tamako Market, and the Uta no Prince Sama film, Uta no Prince-sama The Movie: Maji LOVE Kingdom.

The other 7 films being shown are; Bohemian Rhapsody, The Greatest Showman, Les Miserables, Rocket Man, Burlesque, Ready Player One, and the classic 1969 film – being released in Japan for the first time ever uncut – Once Upon a Time in the West.

Tickets go on sale on September 13 at 11 PM for 2,000 yen (US$18) for each film both online and at the MOVIX Kyoto ticket booth. Unlike a normal Japanese cinema experience, cinema-goers are encouraged to cheer and clap.
