GHIBLI FEST Takes Us to a Magical World with Spirited Away Screening

Limited theatrical run will include an intro by Griffin McElroy and a preview of Weathering with You

Halloween is just around the corner, and Fathom Events and GKIDS are bringing us a suitably spirit-filled entry for STUDIO GHIBLI FEST 2019.

2002's Spirited Away will be the film series's late October offering, telling the story of young Chihiro working to rescue herself and her family from a strange world of spirits and demons. The Academy Award-winning film will have showtimes for both subbed and dubbed screenings during its three-day run.

The screening will feature an exclusive intro by My Brother, My Brother and Me co-host and good podcasting boy Griffin McElroy. Viewers will also get a sneak preview of your name. director Makoto Shinkai's latest film, Weathering with You.

The official synopsis from the film series:

Chihiro’s family is moving to a new house, but when they stop on the way to explore an abandoned village, her parents undergo a mysterious transformation and Chihiro is whisked into a world of fantastical spirits ruled over by the sorceress Yubaba. Put to work in a magical bathhouse for spirits and demons, Chihiro must use all her wits to survive in this strange new place, find a way to free her parents and return to the normal world. Overflowing with imaginative creatures and thrilling storytelling, “Spirited Away” became a worldwide smash hit, and is one the most critically-acclaimed films of all time.

Showings will take place Sunday, October 27 at 12:55 pm (dubbed); Monday, October 28 at 7:00 pm (subtitled); and Wednesday, October 30 at 7:00 pm (dubbed). Check the Fathom Events website for a participating theater near you.
