The fiery Kanto Pokémon trades in its flames for the Psychic typing
After being unveiled – but not named – on the 24-hour livestream from inside a certain forrest in the Galar region, Galarian Ponyta was officially announced in this week's issue of Famitsu magazine, and through a trailer on the English Pokémon YouTube channel. Check out my little Ponyta in the trailer below.
The Galarian version of Ponyta is based off a unicorn, giving it the Psychic type instead of the Fire type its Kanto version has. Ponyta’s in the Galar region are different than their Kanto counterparts due to absorbing the life energy of a certain forest. If it absorbs enough life energy, its mane glows.
Galarian Pontya’s new ability is Pastel Veil. This new ability prevents any Pokémon on its side of the battlefield from being poisoned, including healing poisoned Pokémon when they’re switched into battle. The Pokémon can also be found with Run Away.
Like Sirfetch’d, Galarian Ponyta will be exclusive to one version of the upcoming Pokémon games, this time, Pokémon Shield. Both Pokémon Sword and Shield will be released on the Nintendo Switch worldwide on November 15.
