Masaaki Yuasa's Ride Your Wave Wins Best Animation Film Award at Sitges Festival

The 96-minute romantic fantasy film earned 250 million yen in Japan

 

 

In addition to the Best Animation Award at Shanghai International Film Festival in June, internationally acclaimed director Masaaki Yuasa (Lu over the Wall, Devilman Crybaby)'s latest anime film feature film Kimi to, Nami ni Noretara/Ride Your Wave received another critical acclaim by winning the Best Animation Film Award at the 52nd Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia.

 

Stiges Film Festival has been known as one of the three most authoritative fantastic film festivals in the world, along with Fantasporto in Portugal and Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival in Belgium. Fuminori Kizaki's HUMAN LOST and Keiichi Hara's The Wonderland were also introduced at the event.

 

 

  

 

The 96-minute romantic fantasy film was released in 299 theaters across Japan on June 21, 2019. Despite massive publicity efforts, it debuted in ninth place with a poor 80 million yen in its opening weekend, then ended its domestic run with a disappointing 250 million yen. Its DVD/Blu-ray is set to be released in Japan on December 18, 2019.
