"I want to deliver energy, courage, and love to everyone in the world."
The Japanese Government appointed 50-year-old voice actress Rika Matsumoto, best known as Satoshi in the Pokémon anime franchise and the singer of the TV anime's first OP song "Mezase Pokémon Master," as a "Cool Japan Ambassador" on October 21.
Cool Japan Ambassador is an initiative to promote the appeal of Japan overseas in cooperation with Japanese who are active around the world and foreign people who are fans of Japanese culture. Matsumoto is its 47th ambassador and the second voice actress who is assigned to the post following Aya Hirano (Haruhi Suzumiya VA) last month.
Matsumoto received the letter of appointment from Naokazu Takemoto, Minister of State for "Cool Japan" Strategy, in Tokyo yesterday. She said, "Satoshi has been traveling for 23 years, visiting so many places and meeting various people. I feel like I have had the same experiences as him. The world of Pokemon is different from the world of human beings, but I think there are many things that we have in common. I want to deliver energy, courage, and love to everyone in the world. "
