Ikumi Nakamura is as excited as we are about the Spider-Verse 2 news
In case you somehow missed the news, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse co-producer/writer Phil Lord confirmed on Twitter that Toei's take on the comic book hero "is designed" in preparation for the film's sequel. Fan reaction has been huge (and positive), and a few familiar faces are sharing in the celebration.
Artist Ikumi Nakamura has worked on character concept art and cinematics for games like The Evil Within 2, Street Fighter V, and Okami. However, she's likely best known for her design of the title character in action-adventure game Bayonetta. She took to Twitter to express her excitement about toku-Spidey's return with some spot-on poses (and an on-brand sweatshirt). Check out her video here, or by clicking the image:
The 41-episode tokusatsu take on Spider-Man starred Shinji Todo as motocross racer Takuya Yamashiro, who receives his superpowers via a blood transfusion from the last warrior of Planet Spider. Fans have been hoping for Yamashiro's Spidey to make his way into Spider-Verse ever since the first film established the interaction of the franchise's many different iterations.
The sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is coming in April 2022—but we can likely expect lots more tributes in the meantime.
